Adnan Sami
Rated as the fastest keyboard
player in the world by Swedish Radio and Television
Broadcasting, Adnan Sami is no stranger to fame and
adulation. After climbing his way to the top of music
charts this versatile musician stunned his fans world
over by losing 97 kg weight in six months. A new slim
and trim Adnan Sami won back the love of his wife and
also came out with new album “Kisi Din”
which is rocking the charts. Needless to say there are
few who can match Adnan in the ‘size’ of
his talents.
A cherubic face and an ever-smiling persona effectively
hide the immense talent that lies buried in Adnan Sami
Khan. Recipient of several International
awards such as the Nigar and the Bolan Academy Award.
A God-given gift starting at the age of five, Sami
first learnt to play the piano on his father’s
electronic piano. Although he only took one music class
in his school, he was playing
piano like a professional when he was just 7 years old.
There has been no looking back since then.
Educated at London’s famed
‘Rugby School’, the grand piano in
the boarding house honed his growing mastery. Western
Classical, Jazz, Pop all were a child’s play for
this audacious musician.
Adnan as an artist has ventured in uncharted territories,
and yet this pianist cum composer cum singer has always
found success in all his musical endeavors. Sami's vocal
albums are consistently successful in sales, each one
selling more than a million copies
‘Kabhi to Nazar Milao’,
in collaboration with the legendary
Asha Bhonsle, happened as a result of one of
these musical explorations. In one of their frequent
meetings, Adnan played some melodies he had composed,
and Kabhi to Nazar Milao was born. Asha’s vocal
charm enriches this melodious album, which keeps the
listeners hooked to the music. His album Kabhi To Nazaraan
Milao, became the all-time largest selling independent
album in India upon release. Khan followed that album
with Tera Chehra, which sold several
million copies all over the world. His latest
album is "Kisi Din" which is also a big hit.
His Bollywood music projects have also brought him laurels,
most notably his duet with Amitabh
Bachchan on his hit number “Lift Kara De”
and his song “Meter Down” from the
film “Taxi No. 9211”.
He often releases music albums with Bollywood celebrities
participating in the music videos. The celebrities who
have participated include Namrata Shirodhkar ("Bheegi
Bheegi Raat"), Mahima Chaudhry , Raveena Tandon
, Rani Mukherjee ("Tera Chehra"), Govinda
, Fardeen Khan , Amisha Patel ("O Meri Jaan"),
Bhoomika Chawla ("Maahiya"), Diya Mirza ("Pal
Do Pal") and most famously, Amitabh Bachchan ("Kabhi
Nehi").
Sami has performed for prestigious music festivals
to sold-out stadia of his solo concert tours all over
the world in over forty countries.
He has also performed before Heads of State and Government
such as President Mitterrand of France, the President
of United Arab Emirates, the President and Prime Minister
of India, the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan,
the President and Prime Minister of Khazakhstan, the
Prime Minsiter of Kyrgystan, the Prime Minister and
Christina of Sweden.
After his magical weight loss Adnan is already conquering
new heights as an artist and a family man.
Trivia:
1) The first pianist to play Indian
Classical music on the electric piano, his fingers
moved so quickly over the keyboard that they blurred
in the cameras recording him playing.
2) Adnan has shared the stage
with the likes of Yanni.
3) Keyboard magazine referred to him as the
‘Keyboard Discovery of the 90’s’.
4) He was also given MTV's 'Breakthrough
Artiste of the Year' award for 2001.
5) Sami was invited to be a member of the jury of the
prestigious music festival "Voice of Asia"
competition, held annually at Almaty, Kazhakstan - the
jury comprises top music composers of the world.
6) As a classical concert pianist, Sami has had the
honour of giving "solo"
Royal Command performances before the King
of Sweden and King Hussein of Jordan.
7) Sami has recently been featured
in a documentary, commissioned by the Foreign
and Common Wealth Office of Great Britain, about ten
people from the sub-continent who have influenced the
Asian culture in the UK over the last fifty years.
8) His album “Kabhi to Nazar Milao” remained
number one on the music
charts for an unprecedented 78
weeks.
9) He has also been honoured by
UNICEF with a special award and a UN
Peace Award for a song he wrote for Africa.
